Labor Day Festivities
On Labor Day our family marched in the parade and Leo was very excited about it because our contingent included a drill team. He spent the entire route staring at the drummers and dancers. We didn't last very long at the picnic afterwards, but long enough for Leo to take in the boats (and ducks) on the river from Penn's Landing.
Over the weekend we had attended a wedding - one of jb's good friends from high school. It was a lovely wedding - but I'm always a sucker for weddings. Leo had a great time playing in the grass during the ceremony (hooray for outdoor ceremonies), enjoyed the dinner served (hooray for healthy options) and when the sun went down and the lanterns were lit - he became a dancing machine.
He danced his little heart out and at one point he had a circle of fans surrounding him on the dance floor. It was well passed his bedtime when he finally crashed. He snuggled up in the ring-sling and watched everyone else dance as his eyelids fought to stay open. Although with each new song he'd lift his head to bob it to the beat for a moment before putting it back down on my shoulder.
To round out the long weekend we packed our bags, kissed jb good-bye and took off with Abi for a week in Pittsburgh. Leo is happy as a clam swept up in a whirlwind of family and fun - but is asking me for "Dad, dad, dad" a few times a day. It's sweet/sad to see him really miss someone for the first time. Up until now it's been pretty out-of-sight-out-of-mind for him. Thank goodness for skype!
