Manifesto

Today's TDBC topic is "What you believe" and I'm going to try to be thorough but brief.

I believe people should treat each other with respect and recognize each other as human beings who deserve the same rights and responsibilities as each and every one of their fellow citizens.

I believe that workers have the right to organize and collectively bargain a contract to ensure safe working conditions and fair wages and benefits.

I believe that women should be paid the same as their male counterparts, should have the right to choose what happens to their bodies, should be seen as people rather than sex objects, and should be able to breastfeed their children anywhere they choose without shame or derision.

I believe that people should not be profiled because of the color of their skin and that it is wrong and dangerous to make generalizations about an entire religion, race, nationality, or ethnicity because of the acts of a few.

I believe that we should all recognize and challenge the thoughts and feelings we have that are based in racism, sexism, homophobia, classism or xenophobia - and admit that we aren't exempt from discriminatory thoughts even though we may even be part of the community that these prejudices might hurt.

I believe that immigrants (documented and undocumented) have a right to be treated with respect, receive fair wages, keep their families intact, and that they should not be used as scapegoats to distract from the awful actions of those taking advantage of their vulnerability.

I believe that LGBT people should have legislated protection from discrimination, should be allowed to marry, should be allowed to serve openly in the military, and should be supported in their quests for parenthood.

I believe we should take care of our earth and guard our natural resources.

I believe our representatives should have the people's best interests in mind and legislate accordingly.

I believe the government should plentifully fund schools, assistance for those in need, public services, and the greater public good.

Well, that was brief, but I'm not sure it was thorough.  I think you get the idea, though.
