Tepozteco

Today we went to Tepoztlan - another mountain town near Cuernavaca that is known for a pyramid at the top of the mountain. It's quite a hike to get to but the views at the top are incredible. Nick, Dan, and I are the only ones that decided to make the climb. At the beginning of the hike I didn't think I was going to make it to the top - but with a few pit stops along the way we hiked the whole 2 km to the top. It was a hard climb - but once you get to the top it is so amazing. I was a sweaty mess. We sat atop the pyramid for a bit and enjoyed the view before heading back down. The walk down is much easier - and it took us less than half the time it took us on the way up. Once we got to the bottom we met up with the rest of the family to have quesadillas in the mercado. We ate quesadillas de tinga (chicken and chipotle), flor de calabaza (zucchini flowers), colorines (an edible red flower), chorizo y papa (mexican sausage and potato), and of course chapulines (crickets). Larissa convinced Dan to try the cricket one even thought he's a vegetarian. After we ate we wandered around a bit and did a little shopping. Finally, we got our Tepoz Nieve (local ice cream - I got rice, corn, and chocolate) and headed home. Now our trip is pretty much over and we are packing and getting ready to catch a 6 am bus back to Mexico City. If I thought I was tired the last few days - then I don't know what this is. Getting back to the Y should be a piece of cake. Less than 24 hours till I see my true love.d
