The Milkman, The Paper Boy, and Evening TV

We are going to have a very, very full house over the next few months.  For the last couple years we have been living in an apartment (that I ADORE) that has comfortably fit our family of three.  When we learned we were expecting bug, we were pretty content to stay put even though this apartment is technically only a two-bedroom.

But then we found out that jb's brothers' living situation was changing.  I know I sound like a broken record - but it has been so, so, so nice having the three of them living just a few blocks away.  Still, we knew it probably wouldn't last forever.  Uncle Jared got engaged (congrats again, Jadge!) and he and his fiancee got an apartment in another part of town.  Uncle Julian decided to move back to Pittsburgh to be near his dad and other brother.  That left Uncle Daniel in search of new roommates.

At around this time our landlord mentioned that he had bought the (shell of a) home next door to ours and was renovating it.  The apartment would be newer, nicer, and bigger.  More space would be nice, and we didn't want to lose all three of the family members we'd been lucky enough to have nearby - so, it was decided: Uncle Daniel would move in with us!  The catch?  His lease was up at the end of May and the new apartment wouldn't be ready until September 1st.

So last week, Uncle Daniel (and all his stuff) moved into our apartment.  It's tight, but we are settling into something that should work for a few months.  Leo is in heaven.  Whenever we come home he calls out, "Uncle Daniel, are you home?"  We are slowly finding ways to make room for the furniture, pantry items, and general living space.

Of course, bug will be joining us any day now.  That brings the household count up to five.  And then my sister is coming to stay with us for two weeks to help (yay!) and I'm sure my mom and other sister will make a visit to meet bug...  The more the merrier, right?

I'm sure the next few months will have some challenging moments - but I really think that the new apartment and living with family will be good for everyone in our household.  Until then...I think we can manage.

lol, you about drove me crazy trying to remember where that quote came from :) I think your family sounds awesome and your kids are so lucky to truly be raised by a village. Good luck with the space issues - it will be worth it.

  3. Yes! Me too. I remember my high school desire to escape family - and now, I would totally live in a commune with everyone. It really is nice to share resources and time.

  4. Ha! Sorry. jb didn't know the quote, and I was like, "Trust me, everyone else does..." I'm really glad we have a village, too. When we moved to Philly I thought that was something we were saying good-bye to - thankfully, we didn't have to!

  7. There are ups and there are downs with family, but having them close is great when you all get along. I can't imagine having any relative but my brother as a roommate or neighbor, but my dearest hubby would hate that. haha.
